The Righetti FFA Poultry Team won the State Championship in poultry judging at the Cal Poly FFA Finials last weekend and will now move on to represent California at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana in October.
The Warrior Poultry Team was comprised of three sophomores and a junior; Sonora Robertson, Jazzlynn Franco, Brooke Barredo, and Yerlin Heredia. Robertson was awarded first high individual of all contestants in the state.
Team Coach and Agriculture Teacher Amy Guerra described the team victory as a “high and exciting achievement”. “The girls and I are very motivated and honored to be representing California in this highly competitive area,” Guerra said.
Other Warrior FFA Teams also made their marks during the competitions. The Ag Welding Team had four members qualify and compete placing 18th in the State of California. The AET Farm Records Team placed 15th overall, a Righetti first in this area. The Vegetable Crop Team placed 7th overall with member, Kayleigh Hollum, placing fourth high individual.
All the teams have spent the past five months studying, practicing, and competing in various career development areas at universities and colleges across the state, according to FFA Reporter Carolina Lemus. The spring season concluded at the Cal Poly State FFA Finals, she added.
